Hereward Roofing are in the finals of the 2008 NFRC Excellence in Roofing Awards!Hereward roofing have been selected on the finalist shortlist for the Slate category of the 2008 NFRC Excellence in Roofing Awards. These awards recognise and reward outstanding roofing projects in all the major roofing disciplines, and this annual event attracts hundreds of entries. For its work on a private house in Northamptonshire, Hereward Roofing is down to the last three in the slating category. The Project - Walnut HouseThis exceptionally fine family home in Northamptonshire, was designed and built to the owners exacting standards. Everything from fine oak panelling in the hall and library, the divided staircase, the window frames and the kitchen were bespoke. The stone built house needed an exceptionally beautiful roof, which required meticulous planning before work could begin. It was slated in Brazilian random natural blue/grey slate and the turret was topped off with a lead finial, commissioned by Hereward Roofing to their own design. The success of this project was largely thanks to the planning that took place well before slating began. The property isn’t isolated by any means, so careful consideration had to be given to minimise any possible disturbance to neighbours. Materials were in ordered to arrive on site as required, which lessened the need for constant site security. As is always the case, slaters were scheduled to work with and around associated trades, so the job was completed on time and on budget, delighting the owner and his family. Hereward Roofing was selected for this project because of its well known ability to work to budget and schedule, its attention to detail and the undoubted skill of its slaters. The company specialises in ‘one-offs’, and has recently won the contract to install the roof of the mental health unit at the new Edith Cavell hospital in Peterborough. A slightly different scale to walnut House, but the principal is identical – plan to succeed.
